Introducing the iCAML
series of sensing technologies

MANY APPLICATIONS

iCAML Technology Overview

It is a simple and inexpensive sensing technology that enjoys plural-patent protection.  The iCAML technology itself is low-level core  processes that specific products can build upon.  A crude and simple analogy would be that, "it's not the wine, nor the beer, nor the tequila...it's the fermentation process upon which they all are created."

For this prototype, an active component is worn on a moving part of interest and then a sensing unit monitors the location and movement of that part.  The underlying or core technology can be designed using a variety of sensing technologies for different situations.  Using magnetic fields as the sensing technology is one approach for when line-of-sight is not always possible, and that is what this prototype demonstrates.  Several components are required to create Intangible Controls, with one being a sensing component.  There are many applications in different fields:

Adaptive Equipment for the Disabled

It is designed to be extremely flexible to the needs of the individual.  No custom manufacturing is required because of the nature of its plural-patent-protected sensing technology.  It is a wireless and simple technology that allows the user to move a cursor, click, click-and-drag, type, etc. without having to touch or directly interact with any electro-mechanical devices (which typically have to be custom-manufactured for the individual).

  • Health and Fitness: Sense and record your workout.  Use free weights, Nautilus-style, or no equipment at all.  Could track virtually any repetitive-motion exercise.  Collect work and power metrics.  Guide you through a dynamic work.  All of the data is collected into a PDA so charts and graphs are immediately available without reentering data manually.

  • Networked VR Gaming: Imagine being able to walk around a 30' diameter "arena" with no wires attached, and only wearing VR immersion goggles and small modules on each primary joint (ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists) and head.  A full-body avatar would be modeled.  Enjoy real-world activities with others from the comfort of your home: ultimate fighting, live music and dancing, shopping, hiking, adventures, etc.  Understand that you are actually walking, and fighting, and singing, and dancing, etc. within the confines of the arena, and with immersion game graphics superimposed or composited over the visual of the actual physical arena space.  Computer constructs such as "escalator pads" allow you to step on them and move a given direction until you step off.

  • Adaptive Equipment: Such as featured on this page.

  • Computer Add-Ons: "Foot-mouse" and more.

  • Hazardous Environments: Use a computer while in space, under water, or working with flammable gases.

  • Ergonomic Motion Studies: Study motion in a warehouse, to identify movements that can cause injury, etc.

  • Hands-Free Device Usage: Hand-held devices (such as an iPhone) can be used without touching a screen or keyboard.  Set the device down, then by waving your hand over it scroll, zoom, etc.  No more scratched or smudged screens.  Yes, the disabled can now use your device.  Yes, women with stylish nails can now use your device.
